Abstract Since the Holy Quran is the last divine book and its teachings are for all times, in addition to the literal meaning, it has deep inner layers which, in order to be realized, requires their own style and technique. One of these techniques is the spoken and conceptual style. Spoken here means a meaning which can be easily inferred from the verses. In simpler words, spoken refers to the apparent literal meaning of the verse which is stated with different reasoning. Concept means a meaning which has not been stated in the discourse and can only be inferred by the structure of the discourse which includes the proponent and opponent concepts. In the proponent concept, the verdict is spoken regarding abdication and affirmation and vice-versa in the opponent concept. Therefore, it can be claimed that Quranic verses have different inner meanings, and they are also divine knowledge and it is in light of understanding these methods and being aware of the differences of these reasonings in Quranic verses that the performance of the interpreter in achieving reference-based verses will be increased.

Fear is an emotional reaction which is rooted in a person’s interpretation of situations that seem threatening to his health. The source and perception of threats and dangers can be physical or psychological. Fear triggers the person’s defense mechanism and acts as a warning signal of probable or looming physical or psychological damage. Therefore, fear is a God-given gift and plays a significant role in a person’s life, safeguarding human beings. From the Quranic perspective the most important part of the emotional aspect of fear is the source. This means that if the source is a real threat that might harm a person’s health or undermine his goals, then the fear is acceptable, but if it is rooted in a unreal factor and does not threaten a person’s happiness and well-being, it is unacceptable. From such a perspective, the Qur'an cites different types of fear emotions and provides valuable strategies to manage each.

As the symbol of wealth, arrogance, and rebellion, Qārūn has been referred to in three chapters of the Holy Qura’n: Sūrah al-Qasas (The Stories), Sūrah al-Ankabūt (The Spider), and Sūrah al-Ghāfir (The Forgiver). In Sūrah al-Ankabūt and Sūrah al-Ghāfir, just a single verse is dedicated to Qārūn’s story while seven verses of Sūrah al-Qasas recite his unlimited wealth, arrogance, and eventual death. According to the Qur’an, Qārūn was of Moses’s people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. He was very wealthy and believed his wealth was just the result of his competency and merit. His people benevolently advised him, and also God reminded him, and all those who were like Qārūn, that men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount of the riches were all destructed. Yet, he again rejected to donate his wealth and began to show off while the worldly-minded wished they had been in his place. Then, God’s torment descended, and Qārūn and his house were devoured by the earth. The Bible, like the Qur’an, describes his fate in chpater 16 of the Book of Numbers under the Hebrew name of “Korah bin Izhar bin Kohath bin Levi”: Korah was a cousin to Moses, but he was jealous of Moses and Aaron and rebelled against Moses in collaboration with Dathan, Abiram, On, and 250 princes of Bani Israel. After that earth opened mouth and devoured Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Afterwards, a fire came from God and burnt his remaining companions. In this study, the two texts are compared and contrasted to pave the ground for greater understanding and empathy between the followers of the two holy religions.
