Abstract

Referencing the contextual clues in understanding the intentions of God in the interpretation of the Holy Quran is considered one of the important foundations of Quranic exegesis. The context of speech, as a connected verbal clue, has extensive applications in revealing the correct meanings of verses; neglecting this can lead to interpretive misunderstandings accompanied by incorrect claims. Allameh Tabatabai's interpretation, due to its Quranic methodology, has extensively utilized context. He pays special attention to the contextual clues, particularly the context, in determining the occurrence of abrogation in the verses and critiques the viewpoints of scholars on this matter. The forthcoming text uses a descriptive-analytical approach to explore the role of context in determining abrogation within the scope of Surah Al-Baqarah and concludes that in some cases, context is used as a connected clue to determine the occurrence of abrogation in this Surah. In some instances, context has a negative role, and the claims of some Quranic researchers seeking to prove abrogation in these verses through context can be refuted
